Catherine Stewart's news article read as follows:
2 Dead, 3 Hurt (obscured on microfilm) Carraway & Child lose lives in Cox Road Crossing crash

The lives of two persons were snuffed out in a grade crossing accident yesterday afternoon at 6 o’clock when the “Southern States Special” fast southbound Seaboard Air Line passenger train, struck and demolished an automobile occupied by six persons at the Cox road Crossing, National Highway No. 1.

T. F. Carraway, 27, of 105 Petersburg-Hopewell highway, and Catherine Stewart, 8 years old daughter of Mrs. Fannie Stewart of Stop 58, Richmond-Petersburg turnpike, were fatally injured in the crash. 2 Dead, 3 Hurt as Train Hits Machine Here - Worst Crash in Years

The grade crossing accident was one of the worst to be recorded in Petersburg in many years. An investigation by Patrolman Parrish of the Petersburg police department, Sgt. Lawrence of the state police force and other local and state officers disclosed that the roadster, traveling toward Petersburg, was struck almost in its center. It is considered remarkable that four of the occupants of the card escaped death.

Police said that three persons were riding in the front seat of the automobile and three in the rumble seat. All of the passengers were thrown out of the car with the exception of Hampden Stewart. The car was demolished but it was not overturned as the force of the impact with the locomotive pushed it off the crossing to the side of the road.

The train was halted shortly after it had cleared the crossing and was delayed for 45 minutes. Kit Stevens of Raleigh, NC, was the engineer of the train and W. P Clements of Richmond, the conductor.

Carraway is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eula Carraway; mother, Mrs. James E. Carraway, of Chesterfield County; 3 brothers, W. E. and R. H. Carraway of Stoney Creek, H. O. Carraway of Hopewell; and 3 sisters, Mrs. J. H. Jolly, of Hopewell, Mrs. Fannie Stewart of Chesterfield County, and Mrs. H. H. Moore of Emporia. Funeral services will be held at the grave in Blandford Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. E. Hill, pastor of the West End Presbyterian Church, Hopewell.

Catherine Stewart is survived by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. E. H. Stewart and one brother, Hampden Stewart, all of Chesterfield County. Funeral services will be held at the Crowder family burying grounds in Sussex County, Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock, conducted by Rev. S. E. Lucas, pastor of the Sussex Methodist Church.
12 Fannie B Carraway, Edward Hampton Stewart, Mary Hannah Crowder, Thomas F. Carraway, Eula (?) and Edmund Hampton Stewart also appeared in a news article about detailing the events surrounding her death and that of her uncle, Thomas F. Carraway at Petersburg, Virginia, on 13 April 1934 with Catherine Stewart.9

Theodore M. Curtis Jr. was born in May 1945.

Theodore M. Curtis Jr. married Margaret Mitchell Eppes, daughter of Edward Mitchell Eppes III and Maude Ainslie Waddy, on 8 July 1967. He was 22 at the time. As of 12 October 1970, Theodore M. Curtis Jr. and Margaret Mitchell Eppes Curtis lived at 2724 Mohawk Drive, North Chesterfield, Chesterfield County, Virginia, 23235.

In 1995,Theodore M. Curtis Jr. lived at 119 Tempsford Lan, Richmond, Virginia. 1.

Edward Mitchell Eppes III's obituary appeared in the newspaper on 16 March 2001. It listed Janie M Will, Anne Ainslie Eppes, Margaret Mitchell Eppes and Theodore M. Curtis Jr. as surviving him. He was listed as his son-in-law, Theodore M. Curtis Jr. of Kilmarnock, Va.1

Edward Mitchell Eppes III's obituary read:
Though he served as staff physician on the city's payroll and at The Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Richmond News Leader, Dr. Edward Mitchell Eppes III remained first and foremost a dedicated family doctor.

"He put so much time into his feelings for people," said his daughter, Margaret Eppes Curtis of Kilmarnock. "He just had that people feeling."

Dr. Eppes, of Lively, formerly of Richmond, died Thursday. He was 78. He was the retired staff physician for Richmond Newspapers Inc. and for both the Richmond Bureau of Fire and the Richmond Bureau of Police.

Rarely pulling punches, Dr. Eppes preferred that his patients had all the facts about their health.

This, his daughter said, meant that he often told it like it was, even when the truth hurt a bit. "He was just always honest," she said. "If you were just way overweight, he would say 'You're too fat.'

"That's just the way he was," she said, and "his patients loved it."

He also had an understanding side when the job called for it, said one Times-Dispatch veteran recalling his first encounter with Dr. Eppes.

Days before starting work, the young reporter was warned by a co-worker that an existing medical condition had delayed his own first day on the job by weeks.

Knowing that he would soon need treatment for the same chronic ailment, the veteran was sweating bullets before his exam with Dr. Eppes. He could ill afford either the cost of treatment or to miss any paychecks.

Once in the Dr. Eppes' office, the young reporter took a shot at playing it cool. "He told me to cough and I sort of made this little sound, holding back."

He recalled the doctor's skeptical look - his cover had been blown. Just when it looked like the gig was up, "he looked at me and he said, 'You'll make it till next payday.' "

A native of Richmond's North Side, Dr. Eppes graduated from the University of Richmond before attending the Medical College of Virginia.

He served in the Navy, stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital and at a military hospital in Guam, before returning to Richmond to enter private family practice.

Dr. Eppes retired in 1985 to devote time to his favorite pastimes: hunting and fishing.

In addition to his daughter, Dr. Eppes is survived by his wife, Janie Will Eppes; another daughter, Anne E. Cowdrey; a stepdaughter, Margret Johnston Magill; and two stepsons, Jack Kelly Johnston Jr. and Matthew Will Johnston, all of Richmond.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's White Chapel Episcopal Church in Lively.

ChartsPedigree Chart - Mary Horry Eppes
Dr. James Cuthbert was born in December 1716 at Castle Hill, Inverness, England. He was the son of John Cuthbert and Jane Hay.

Dr. James Cuthbert married Patience Stobo.

His wife, Patience Stobo Cuthbert, died before 1758.

Dr. James Cuthbert married Mary Hazzard, daughter of Col. William Hazzard and Elizabeth Russell, on 24 February 1758. He was 41 at the time.

Dr. James Cuthbert died on 15 October 1776 at age 59. James was survived by his wife, Mary Hazzard.

Research Notes: From the book [The Story of an American Family by Stephen B. Barnwell published by Marquette in 1969] I found some good info on page 51.

Dr.James Cuthbert was born Dec. 1716, a son of John Cuthbert of Castle Hill, Inverness and Jane Hay, a daughterof William Hay, the Bishop of Moray.

Dr. Cuthbert came to SC in Oct. 1737 and settled in Prince William's Parish.

His first wife was Patience, daughter of James Stobo; she was probably the mother of George and Joseph Cuthbert.

After her death Dr. Cuthbert married Mary Hazzard on 24 Feb. 1758.

She was the daughter of Col. William Hazzard of Hazzards Neck, and the widow of Edward Wigg. Mary Hazzard was born in 1718.

(It seems to me that this was a his, hers (including Maj. William Hazzard Wigg), and theirs marriage.)

Dr. James Cuthbert and Mary Hazzard had four children.
