Sally (?) appeared in the 1900 census as the wife of John W Wray Sapony, Dinwiddie County, Virginia, 11 June 1900. She was listed as Sally Wray, age 42, born Jan 1858 in Virginia. She had been married 23 years. She had had 9 children, with 8 still living; John W. Wray, age 45, born Jun 1855 in Virginia. He had been married 23 years. His occupation was farmer.1

Sally (?) appeared in the 1930 census as the mother of John Maxie Wray Belfield, Greensville County, Virginia, on 16 April 1930. She was listed as Sallie D. Wray, age 74, born in Virginia. She was 21 when she first married; John M. Wray, age 32, married. He was 22 when he first married. His occupation was farmer.2

Sally Wray appeared in the 1940 census as the mother-in-law of Charlie G Barnes at Stony Creek, Sussex County, Virginia, on 7 May 1940. Maude Gary was born on 20 January 1878 at Virginia.2

Maude Gary married Temple Carter Eppes, son of John Temple Eppes and Mary C. Garthright, in 1898. [This date is an estimate based on the age of the oldest child.] Her married name was Maude Gary Eppes.

Maude Gary Eppes appeared in the 1910 census as the wife of Temple Carter Eppes on 16 April 1910 in Newport News, Virginia. She was listed as Maud Eppes, age 28, married 11 years, mother of 4 children, 3 children still living, born in Virginia; Temple C Eppes, age 35, married eleven years, working as a carpenter in the shipyard.3

Maude Gary Eppes appeared in the 1920 census as the wife of Temple Carter Eppes on 10 January 1920 in 338 Forty-Fifth Street, Newport News, Virginia. She was listed as Maude Eppes,age 42, married, born in Virginia; Temple C Eppes, age 52, married, born in Virginia, self-employed as a carpernter in the shipyard. Note: The census index name was Temple C Epper.4

Maude Gary Eppes appeared in the 1930 census as the wife of Temple Carter Eppes Newport News, Virginia, on 4 April 1930. She was listed as Maude G Eppes [indexed as Epper], age 51, married. She was 19 when first married; Casper C Eppes, age 61,married [however He was indexed as Casper C Epper in the census index]. He is listed as renting his home. He was 28 when he first married. His occupation was ship carpenter and was working in a shipyard.1

Maude Gary Eppes died on 5 March 1939 at age 61.2 She was buried after 5 March 1939 in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, Virginia.2

She was listed in the obituary of Carlton Mitchell Eppes Sr on 26 May 1999 as preceding him in death. He was survived by five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.5

Carlton Mitchell Eppes Sr's obituary read:
Carlton Mitchell Eppes Sr., 78, died May 25, 1999, at his residence.

He was born in Newport News, the son of the late Temple C. and Maude Eppes. He was a retired 50-year member of Plumbers & Fitters Local No. 110 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was baptized at Hilton Village Baptist Church, Newport News.The widower of Merle L. Eppes, he is survived by a son, Oliver Osborne of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Carlton Mitchell Eppes Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Hwy. Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels.

Hazel W Eppes and Thelma Dallas Eppes appeared in the 1920 census as a daughter of Temple Carter Eppes on 10 January 1920 in 338 Forty-Fifth Street, Newport News, Virginia. She was listed as Thelma Eppes, age 8, attending school; Temple C Eppes, age 52, married, born in Virginia, self-employed as a carpernter in the shipyard. Note: The census index name was Temple C Epper.2

Thelma Dallas Eppes appeared in the 1930 census as a daughter of Temple Carter Eppes Newport News, Virginia, on 4 April 1930. She was listed as Thelma D Eppes, indexed as EPPER, age 14, single, born in Virginia; Casper C Eppes, age 61,married [however He was indexed as Casper C Epper in the census index]. He is listed as renting his home. He was 28 when he first married. His occupation was ship carpenter and was working in a shipyard.3 Her married name was Thelma Dallas Eppes Cashion.4

Thelma Dallas Eppes married Herschell Austin Cashion Sr, son of George Stewart Cashion and Lonie Lowthorpe.4,5

She was a member of Hampton Roads Baptist Church.Survivors include her husband, Herschell Austin Cashion Sr; three sons, Herschell Austin Cashion Jr. of Dallas, Ronald Edward Cashion of Alexandria and Dr. Donald Thomas Cashion of Virginia Beach; one grandson, James Herschell Cashion of Kansas City, Mo; two granddaughters, Anne Stuart Cashion of Denver and Margaret Lee Cashion of Alexandria; and one brother, Carlton Mitchell Eppes of Chesapeake.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Peninsula Memorial Park by the Rev. John Sowell. The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Hampton Roads Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.
