Anne Gignilliat was born on 23 October 1748. She was the daughter of John Gignilliat and Mary Magdalen DuPre.

Anne Gignilliat married Thomas Heyward Sr, son of Capt. Thomas Heyward and Hester Taylor. Her married name was Anne Gignilliat Heyward. Anne Gignilliat and Thomas Heyward Sr had three children.

Her husband, Thomas Heyward Sr, was buried after 20 October 1795 in Stoney Creek Cemetery, SC?

Anne Gignilliat Heyward died.

Research Notes: At the library on Bull St. in Savannah, Hugh C Horry found the History of the Gignilliat Family of Switzerland and South Carolina, by Robert Gignilliat Kenan.

Most of his info is from this book but some is from First Settlers of SC 1670-1700 by Agnes Leland Baldwin and printed by Southern Historical Press, Inc. in Easley, SC.

Anne Gignilliat was the youngest of seven children born to John Gignilliat and his wife Mary Magdalen DuPre. She was the third wife of Thomas Heyward (1723-1795).

John Gignilliat and his twin brother James were born in SC in 1700 after the death of their father Jean Francois Gignilliat who died 3 Sept. 1699. Their mother was Susanne Le Serrurier. In 1727 John Gignilliat married Mary Magdalen DuPre, a daughter of Cornelius DuPre [planter( in SC before 1700) ] and Jean Brabant, about whom I know nothing. The children of John and Mary Gignilliat were:

1. Mary b. 17 Jul. 1730, d. 1756, m. mr. Partridge.
2. Susanna, b. 10 Apr. 1733, m. Charles Colleton.
3. Martha, b. 6 Nov. 1735 d. 2 Jan. 1753 m. Samuel Porcher.
4. Catherine, b. 13 Oct 1738 d. unmarried at 19 yrs old.
5. Jane Elizabeth, b. 26 Jun. 1743, d. 1771, m. Col. Daniel Heyward.
6. James, b. 30 Jul 1746, d. 12 Mar 1794, m. Charlotte Pepper.
7. Anne, m. Thomas Heyward (1723-1795).

The parents of Mary Magdalen DuPre, Cornelius DuPre and Jean Brabant, were married on 20 Nov. 1708.Cornelius was the son of Josias DuPre ( Monsr., merchant ), who came to SC before 1686 with one servant, Isaac Varry.Cornelius had at least one brother, Josias DuPre Jr., who was in SC before 1700. Josias Jr. was a ship-wright. That's all I know about the DuPres.

Jean Francois Gignilliat was born 17 May 1657 at Vevey Switzerland. He was the son of Abraham Gignilliat and Marie deVille. Jean Francios (Esquire, Captain, Planter) came to SC before 13 July 1685 from Venay, Switzerland. The Lord Proprietors, as a special concession, granted him a 3,000 ac manor 14 July 1687. Also in 1687 he married Susanne (Susanna) LeSerurier, daughter of Jacques LeSerurier and Elizabeth Le Ger ( Leger ). Their children, all born in SC, were:
1. Mary Elizabeth
2. Henry
3. Pierre
4. Abraham
5. Susanne
6. Francois
7&8.James and John Twins born in 1700. John was a grandfather of ours.

Jean Francois Gignilliat died 3 sept. 1699 before his last two sons were born. His widow married John Gaillard, a son of Joachim and Esther Peperil Gaillard.

Susanna Le Serurier, was a daughter of Jacques ( James ) Le Serurier (merchant) Who arrived in SC before 30 Jan. 1692. He was born in St. Quentin, Picardie ( a region and former province of northern France ). He was 62 yrs old in 1697. His wife was Elizabeth Le Ger ( Leger ), daughter of Jacques Le Ger and Elizabeth Bossu. Jacques Le Serurier and Elizabeth his wife became free aliens under act of the General Assembly in 1697. They had one son, James and four daughters, Susanna ( our grandmother ), Catherine, Damaris, and Mary.

That's all I know about the Le Seruriers, Le Gers, and Bossus. The Gignilliat line goes back to Armonod Gignilliat, who was born about 1411.

Relationship7th great-grandfather of Constance Murray Chappell
ChartsPedigree Chart - Mary Horry Eppes
John Gignilliat was born in 1700. He was the son of Jean Francois Gignilliat and Susanne Le Serurier.

John Gignilliat married Mary Magdalen DuPre, daughter of Cornelius DuPre and Jean Brabant, in 1727. John Gignilliat and Mary Magdalen DuPre had seven children of which Anne was the youngest.

John Gignilliat died.
