She appeared in a news article about their double wedding at Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, Virginia, on 26 November 1902.3
Frances Rutherford Goodwin's news article read as follows:
Misses Frances and Ella Goodwin Beautiful Brides AT ST. JOHN'S P. E. CHURCH
The One the Bride of Mr. Samuel Henry Coleman, of Roanoke; the Other of Mr. Edward Ferdinand Henriques, of New Orleans.
(Special Dispatch to The Times.)
WYTHEVILLE, VA., November 25.
A wedding of unusual note and of great beauty was celebrated this evening at 6 o'clock at St. John's Episcopal Church here, when the double marriage of the daughters of Mrs. Letty Goodwin was performed. Her eldest daughter, Miss Frances Rutherford Goodwin, became the bride of Mr. Samuel Henry Coleman, of Roanoke. and the second daughter, Miss Ella Harvie Goodwin, was wedded to Mr. Eduouard Ferdinand Henriques, of New Orleans.
The old church was beautifully decorated with white chrysanthemums, pot plants, ferns and palms in the greatest profusion and arranged in perfect taste. The scene from the body of the church was one of the loveliness rarely surpassed. The edifice was crowded with spectators.
To the strains of the wedding march, played by Miss Ella R Goodwin, an aunt of the bride, the bridal party entered in the following order: First the ribbon girls, little Misses Elizabeth Wheat, of Richmond, and Maggie Ribble. Then came the flower girls, little Misses Katherine and Evelyn Goodwin, of Petersburg, nieces of the brides. Then the ushers – Mr. Saunders of Roanoke; Mr. John Waters, of New York; Mr. George Bernard, of Petersburg; Mr. Walker Gilmer, of Richmond; Mr. Harry Robinson, of Danville; and Mr. Clifford Waters, of Baltimore.
These were followed by the bridesmaids, attractively dressed in white organdy with white ribbons. and carrying chrysanthemums first being Miss Mary Lacy, of Lynchburg, alone; then Miss Janet Bernard, of Petersburg; and Miss Sadie Harvey, of Danville; then Miss Kate Pendleton and Miss Lewla Ribble, both of Wytheville; then Miss Mabel Walker, of New Orleans; and Miss May Ribble, of Wytheville. Following them entered the maid of honor for both brides – their only sister, Miss Laeta Goodwin, in white organdy and white ribbons, and carrying carnations. A vision of loveliness, the brides entered together, each with veil, and carrying bride's roses.
AT THE ALTAR.
The brides
At the chancel steps the fair brides halted, and the betrothal ceremony was performed, both being given away by their uncle, Dr. William H Ribble, Sr., their uncle. Then each bride taking the arm of her betrothed they advanced to the altar rail where they were united in the bonds of marriage, the officiating minister being the Rev. William Arther Rutherford Goodwin, of Petersburg, brother of the brides, assisted by the Rev. Marcer P. Logan, D.D., dean of the Convocation of Southwestern Virginia and rector of St. John’s.
The party left the church in the following order, Mr. and Mrs. Henriques, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman, Miss Laeta Goodwin and Mr. Dupuy Coleman, Miss Mary Lacy and Mrs. Walker Gilmer, Miss May Ribble and Mr. Clifford Waters, Miss Mabel Walker and Mr. Bernard, Miss Kate Pendleton and Mr Ribble, Miss Lewla Ribble and Mr. Robinson, Miss Saddie harvie and Mr. Bernard, Miss Janet Bernard and Mr. Saunders.
The ceremony took place under a marriage bell-of-white chrysanthemums.
HOME RECEPTION.
The wedding was followed by a reception at the home of the brides' mother, Mrs. Letty Goodwin. "Alta Villa." The home was decorated in the prevailing white and green and brilliantly lighted. The guests were received by Mrs, Goodwin, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman, Mr. and Mrs. Henriques, and Miss Laeta Goodwin. The bridal party were served in the dining room first, the ladies being served by the gentlemen – Messrs. F. H Terry, James S Ward, Frank P. Chaffin, Dr. W. H. Ribble Jr., D. Kyle Gibboney and Tyler G. Kent. For hours the home was thronged with friends of the young people, who came to wish them all happiness. The newly-married couples took a night train for an extended Northern tour to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington and other points.
Among the relative other than the attendants who attended the marriage were Mrs. Bernard of Petersburg; Miss Sarah Rutherford, of Richmond; Mrs. Lewis Harvie of Danville, and Mrs Coleman, mother of one groomsman, of Roanoke.
The charming brides are well-known in Richmond, having visited there frequently their uncles, the Revs. Robert A. and Edwin L Goodwin, and Mr. Thomas Rutherford and aunts, Mrs. Dr Lewis Wheat and Miss Sarah Rutherford.
Frances Rutherford Goodwin Coleman died.
