Barry Douglas Briggs Sr and Henry Caroline Briggs appeared in the 1930 census as a son of George Briggs in Coeburn, Wise County, Virginia, on 8 April 1930. He was listed as Douglas B Briggs, son, age 11, born in Virginia, attending school ; George Briggs, age 45, married once, born in Virginia. He was 31 when he first married. He owned his home, valued at $3,500. His occupation was agent for N & W Railroad.2

Barry Douglas Briggs Sr married Catherine Davis on 1 May 1941 at Jarratt, Virginia. He was 22 at the time.3

Catherine Davis Briggs's obituary appeared in the newspaper in Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, Virginia, on 14 June 2001. It listed Barry Douglas Briggs Sr, Barry Douglas Briggs Jr, Anne Davis Briggs, Don Alan Briggs, Laura Ellen Briggs and Jo Jackson Briggs as surviving her.4

WAKEFIELD — Catherine "Kitty" Davis Briggs, 81, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C. She now joins her oldest daughter, Catherine "Kay" Briggs Magee.

Born on August 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late D'Earcy Paul Davis and Laura Mae Joyner Davis, co-founders of the Virginia Diner in Wakefield, Va.

Kitty was the original owner of the Crossroads Antiques Shop in Homeville, Va., and was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Barry "Doug" Douglas Briggs Sr. of Pittsboro, N.C., where the couple had retired after living many years in Wakefield, Va; and her children, Barry Douglas Briggs Jr. and his wife, Jo Jackson Briggs, of Pittsboro, N.C., Ann Briggs Lipscomb and her husband, David, of Grayson, Ga., Don Alan Briggs and his wife, Ronetta, of Richardson, Texas, and Ellen Briggs Burton and her husband, Rodney, of Chester, Va. Her grandchildren include D. Laine Magee, D. Michael Magee, Molly M. Dowless, Casey A. Lipscomb, Sarah D. Lipscomb, John B. Briggs, Catherine "Catle" Briggs, Zachary K. Briggs and Benjamin D. Briggs. She is also survived by seven great- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by Dr. James Becker of Wakefield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 5001 W. Broad St., Suite 220, Richmond, VA 23230.

The official date for this census was 01 June 1850. She was listed as Eugenia Overbey, age 14, born in Virginia; Robert Y. Overby, age 50, born in Virginia. His occupation was farmer. His real estate was valued at $45,825.1

Sarah Eugenia Overbey died on 20 December 1917 at age 82.
