William Newton was born in 1745 at Virginia. He was the son of Benjamin Newton and (Female) Wigginton.1 William Newton participated in military service in the Revolutionary War. He served as a Private in Captain Thomas Young's Company, and as a Sergeant of the Western Battalion commanded by Colonel Joseph Crockett in in Virginia State Service, Revolutionary War.1

William Newton married Elizabeth Field, daughter of William Field and Hannah Roberts, at Daviess County, Kentucky.1

William Newton died in 1817 at Daviess County, Kentucky. William was survived by his wife, Elizabeth Field and his daughter,Ann Newton.1

Watkins Leigh Old, Pattie Hardaway Old, Julia Wickham Old, William Old and Alice Leigh Old appeared in the 1870 census on 26 June 1870 as a household member living with Charles Old at Spencer, Powhatan County, Virginia. The official date for this census was 01 June 1870. She was listed as Alice L. Old, age 2, born in Virginia, at home.1

Julia Wickham Old, Alice Leigh Old and Anne Carter Leigh Old appeared in the 1880 census as a daughter of Charles Old on 15 June 1880 at Spencer, Powhatan County, Virginia. She was listed as Alice Old, age 12, at home, born in Virginia, attending school.2

Anne Carter Leigh Old was born on 26 September 1870 at Powhatan County, Virginia.1,2 She was the daughter of Charles Old and Anne Carter Leigh.

Julia Wickham Old, Alice Leigh Old and Anne Carter Leigh Old appeared in the 1880 census as a daughter of Charles Old on 15 June 1880 at Spencer, Powhatan County, Virginia. She was listed as Fanny Anna Old, age 9, attending school, born in Virginia.1

Anne Carter Leigh Old married her cousin William Fanning Wickham, son of Gen. Williams Carter Wickham and Lucy Penn Taylor, on 6 May 1896 at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. She was 25 at the time.2 Her married name was Anne Carter Leigh Old Wickham.

When she was 29, her husband, William Fanning Wickham, died on 29 March 1900 at Powhatan County, Virginia, at age 39.2

Charles Old graduated from William & Mary College in 1840 at Williamsburg, Virginia.

Martha Hardaway, William Old and Charles Old appeared in the 1850 census on 5 October 1850 as a household member living with William Old Sr. at Powhatan County, Virginia. The official date for this census was 01 June 1850. He was listed as Charles Old, age 25, born in Powhatan, Virginia. His occupation was Engineer.3

Charles Old married Anne Carter Leigh, daughter of Benjamin Watkins Leigh and Julia Wickham, on 24 October 1850 at Richmond, Virginia.1

Also living in the house was his wife, Anne Carter Leigh Old, his son, William Old, his daughter, Julia Wickham Old, Alice Leigh Old and Anne Carter Leigh Old. He was listed as Charles Old, age 56, married, born in Virginia. His occupation was farmer.5

Charles Old appeared in the 1900 census as the head of household on 18 June 1900 at Spencer, Powhatan County, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Anne Carter Leigh Old, his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Abbot Weisiger, his granddaughter, Elizabeth Old, his grandson, Sinclair Barbarin Old and William Old Jr. He was listed as Charles Old, age 76, born July 1823 in Virginia. He had been married 49 years. His occupation was farmer.6 Charles Old wrote his last will on 9 March 1902 at Amelia County, Virginia.

Charles Old died on 26 January 1903 at Powhatan County, Virginia, at age 79. Charles was survived by his wife, Anne Carter Leigh Old. He was buried after 26 January 1903 in Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, located at Rt 603, off Genito Road, Genito, Powhatan County, Virginia.7

Charles Old left a will on 2 March 1903 at Powhatan County, Virginia. Mentioned in the will were Anne Carter Leigh.8 Charles Old's will read as follows:
I Charles Old, being of sound mind do this 9th day of March 1902, make this my last will and testament. I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Anne Carter Old all the property both real and personal of which I may be possessed after paying my debts.

A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Charles Old, deceased, was this day produced in Court and there being no subscribing witness thereto, S. L. Dance and J.K.P______ were sworn and verbally deposed that they are well acquainted with the testators handwriting and verily believe the said handwriting and the name thereto subscribed to be wholly written by the testator's own hand. Whereupon the said handwriting is ordered to be recorded as the last will and testament of the said Charles Old deceased.

Charlotte Pattie Old married George Wallace Ribble Sr, son of Dr William Henry Ribble Sr and Mary Francis Archer Goodwin, on 14 November 1901 at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. She was 21 at the time. Her married name was Charlotte Pattie Old Ribble. At the time of their son Leigh's birth in 1902, Charlotte Pattie Old and George Wallace Ribble Sr were residing in Brazil There were a missionaries in Brazil then. That also means they probably will not be found in the 1900 US Census.2

Charles Old, William Sylvester Old Sr., Jacob Wise Old Sr, Merriwether Fry Old and Wickham Leigh Old appeared in the 1900 census as a son of Watkins Leigh Old in 146 Stuart, Madison, Richland County, Ohio, on 8 June 1900. He was listed as Jacob W Old, age 15, born Feb 1885 in Ohio, attending school.2

Jacob Wise Old Sr appeared in the 1910 census as a lodger of an unknown person on 21 April 1910 in Hanibal, Marion County, Missouri.4

Old Jr. He was listed as Jacob W. Old, age 45, married, born in Ohio. He was 32 when he first married. His occupation was manager, Pewter plant.6 Jacob Wise Old Sr was found on a passenger list on 12 April 1950 at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.7

Merriwether Fry Old was born on 14 February 1887 at Trumbull County, Ohio.1,2 He was the son of Watkins Leigh Old and Candace Priscilla Weiss.

Charles Old, William Sylvester Old Sr., Jacob Wise Old Sr, Merriwether Fry Old and Wickham Leigh Old appeared in the 1900 census as a son of Watkins Leigh Old in 146 Stuart, Madison, Richland County, Ohio, on 8 June 1900. He was listed as M. Fry Old, age 13, born Feb 1887 in Ohio, attending school. However, he was listed as a daughter.2

Merriwether Fry Old and Wickham Leigh Old appeared in the 1910 census as a son of Watkins Leigh Old on 18 April 1910 in 29 Pleasant Avenue, Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. He was listed as Merriwether F. Old, age 23, single, born in Ohio. His occupation was optician at a jewelry store.3

Merriwether Fry Old married Mary A. (?) circa 1912.

Merriwether Fry Old registered for the World War 1 Draft on 5 June 1917 while living at 163 Evergreen Avenue, Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. Also living in the house was his wife, Mary A. Old, his daughter, Candace P. Old. He was listed as Merriwether F. Old, age 32, born in Ohio. He was renting his house. His occupation was optomotrist in an optical shop.5

Merriwether Fry Old appeared in the 1930 census as the head of household on 14 April 1930 at 33 West Florida, Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. Also living in the house was his wife, Mary A. (?), his daughter, Candace P. Old. He was listed as Merriweather Old, age 42, married 23 years. He owned his home valued at $9,800. His occupation was optomotrist in an optical shop.6

Merriwether Fry Old registered for the World War 2 Draft on after 1942 while living in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. He was listed as Merriweather Fry Old, born 14 Feb 1887 in Trumbull County, Ohio, age 55. His employer was Althof & Old located 34 N Phelps, Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio. He was described at 5 ft 5.75 inches tall, 132 lbs, with hazel eyes, grey hair and balding, with a light complexion. His right toe was cut off and he wears glasses.1

Merriwether Fry Old died on 4 May 1956 at age 69.

Charles Old, Anne Carter Leigh Old, Watkins Leigh Old, Pattie Hardaway Old, Julia Wickham Old and William Old appeared in the 1860 census on 24 June 1860 as a household member living with William Old Sr. at Powhatan County, Virginia. The official date for this census was 01 June 1860. She was listed as Patty H. Old, age 6, born Powhatan, Virginia.3
