The official date for this census was 01 June 1850. He was listed as David Shelton, age 22, born in Virginia, no occupation.2

David Jayne Shelton married Martha A (?).

David Jayne Shelton was listed as the head of household on the 1870 census on 2 September 1870 at Clarksville, Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Martha A (?), his son, John A Shelton, his daughter, Lillie M Shelton and Rosa Lee Shelton. He was listed as David Shelton, age 41, born in Virginia. His occupation was dentist. His personal property was valued at $110.3

Her husband, Samuel Briggs, died before 1930 at Virginia as his wife was marked as widowed on the 1930 census.

Rosa Pace Shelton appeared in the 1930 census as the mother-in-law of Benjamin Thomas Horne Sr Henry, Sussex County, Virginia, on 7 April 1930. She was listed as Rosa P. Briggs, age 72, widowed, born in Virginia. She was 22 when she first married.7

Rosa Pace Shelton Briggs died on 19 June 1933 at Virginia at age 74. Rosa was survived by her children Henry Caroline Briggs, George Briggs, Mary Belvidere Briggs, Leah Pace Briggs, Anna Atkinson Briggs and Samuel Wilkins Briggs.8 Rosa Pace Shelton Briggs was buried after 19 June 1933 in Blandford Cemetery in Section KK, located at 319 S Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia.8

Bessie Short married Samuel W Hood, son of Joel P Hood and Margaret Emma Magee, circa 1916.1 Her married name was Bessie Short Hood.1

Bessie Short died on 21 May 1966 at age 85.1 She was buried after 21 May 1966 in Blandford Cemetery, located at 319 S Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia.

Mary Rutledge Shubrick was born on 23 October 1789. She was the daughter of Col. Thomas Shubrick and Mary Branford.

Mary Rutledge Shubrick married Elias Horry, son of Thomas Horry and Ann Nancy Branford, on 24 October 1817 at St Michael's Episcopal Church, 71 Broad St, Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, 29401. She was 28 at the time. Her married name was Mary Rutledge Shubrick Horry.

When she was 44, her husband, Elias Horry, died on 17 September 1834 at Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, at age 61.1

Her husband, Elias Horry, was buried after 17 September 1834 in Cathedral Church of St Luke and St Paul Cemetery at 126 Coming St, Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina.1

Mary Rutledge Shubrick appeared in the 1850 census as the head of household, free population schedule at Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, on 17 September 1850. Also living in the house was William Branford Shubrick Horry, Julia Elizabeth Horry, Edward Shubrick Horry and Paul Trapier Horry. She was listed as Mary H. Horry, age 60, born in South Carolina, no occupation. Her real estate was valued at $130,000.2

Mary Rutledge Shubrick Horry died on 14 January 1852 at age 62.3 She was buried after 14 January 1852 in Cathedral Church of St Luke and St Paul Cemetery, located at 126 Coming St, Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina.3
