Donald Wayne Topping was born on 1 March 1942. He is the son of James R. Topping.

His father, James R. Topping, died before 2005.

When he was 62, his mother, Margaret Marie Chappell Topping, died on 24 February 2005 at Virginia at age 84.1,2

Margaret Marie Chappell's obituary appeared in the newspaper in Newport News, Virginia, on 27 February 2005. It listed Rebecca Lynn Gatling, Donald Wayne Topping, George Randolph Chappell, Willie Ambler Chappell Jr. and Gene Poole Chappell as surviving her. He was listed as her son, Donald "Donnie Boy" Topping.3

Margaret Marie Chappell's obituary read:
Margaret Marie Chappell Topping, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005. A native of Jarratt, Va., she had been a Hampton resident for the last 50 years where she was a member of First United Methodist Church, downtown.

Marge graduated from Ferrum College and The College of William and Mary. She operated the first special education classes out of the basement of First United Methodist Church. She became a special educator at the ARC of the Peninsula, the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center. Instead of retiring, her devotion to special needs citizens caused her to remain with the ARC as a social worker with the Infant/Parent Education Center. Marge was a leader among advocates for the rights of special needs children and adults, she was the Director of Camp Parkitan and ran Camp Rainbow. She was always very active in the Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, James R. "Pete" Topping, survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Gatling; her son, Donald "Donnie Boy" Topping; her brother-in-law, Harold Topping; three brothers, George R. Chappell, Willie A. "Bill" Chappell Jr. and Gene P. Chappell. She will also be greatly missed by seven nieces, Carol, Deborah, Karen, Lisa, Lydia, Mary and Paula; two nephews, David and Jamie; and three grandchildren, Kristi, Frank and Brianna.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. L. Stanley Wright Jr. and the Rev. William R. Kyle Jr. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, after which, everyone is invited to join the family for a reception in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to The Rebecca Lynn Gatling Trust, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23669.

Richard J Tucker was born in 1829.

Susan H Chappell of Sussex County, Virginia, transferred a deed of property recorded 3 December 1846 to John Thomas A. Chappell, Rebecca A. Chappell and Richard J Tucker. There was a valuation of the slaves for a total of $2650, allotting to Susan H Chappell, $883.33 one-third, her third of the negroes. Although deceased, John W. Chappell was mentioned as the husband of Susan H Chappell. She was the administrator of his estate.1 The deed read as follows:
Suit brought in Sussex County Chancery Court, Nov. Term 1839 between the plantiff Susan H. Chappell widow of John W Chappell in her own right and as administratrix of the said John W. Chappell decd, plantiff against Rebecca A (or S) P. Mary E. and John T. A. Chappell infant children of John W. Chappell deceased by A. G. Mitchell their Guardian at litem appointed by the Court to defend them in this behalf defendants.

The Court appointed Abraham G. Mitchell Guardian ad litem specially to defend the infant defendants. William C. Pace, Joseph, Jarrad, Edwin G Scott, William B. Jarrad, and Micajah Ellis were appointed Commissioners, any three of whom may act, on some convenient day to be appointed by the parties, meet at the late residence of John W. Chappell deceased accompanied by the County Surveyor and value and divide the lands of which said decedent died owning so that they allot one-third part to Susan H. Chappell widow, in right of her dower, and the same with the slaves.

The slaves were valued at $2650, Susan was allotted $883.33 1/3 by Joseph Jarrad, William Pace and W B Jarrad.

Richard J Tucker appeared in the 1860 census as the head of household, free population schedule on 20 August 1860 Sussex County, Virginia. Also living in the house was Rebecca A. Chappell, Robert G Tucker and Susan Tucker. He was listed as Richard J Tucker, age 31, farmer. His real estate was valued at $500; his personal estate, at $2,000.4

On 20 August 1860, Richard J Tucker and Susan G.P. Bolling appeared in the 1860 census as a neighbor of John E. Stewart at Stony Creek, Sussex County, Virginia.5

Richard J Tucker was listed as the head of household on the 1870 census on 10 September 1870 at Stony Creek, Sussex County, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Rebecca A. Chappell, his son, Robert G Tucker, Richard T Tucker and Willie R Tucker. He was listed as Richard Tucker, age 41, born in Virginia, white, with occupation of farmer. His real estate was valued at $1,000; and his personal property, $400.6

Richard J Tucker appeared in the 1880 census as the head of household on 18 June 1880 at Stony Creek, Sussex County, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Rebecca A. Chappell, his son, Robert G Tucker, Richard T Tucker, Lawrence F Tucker and Thomas P Tucker, his daughter, Fanny Tucker. John E. Stewart was listed as a neighbor. He was listed as R J Tucker, age 50, farmer.7

Richard J Tucker appeared in the 1880 census as a neighbor of John E. Stewart on 18 June 1880 at Stony Creek, Sussex County, Virginia. He was listed as Richard Tucker, living right next door.8 Richard J Tucker and Rebecca A. Chappell Tucker, John Thomas A. Chappell, Susan (Nannie) Bolling Stewart Chappell and Mary E. Chappell of Sussex County, Virginia, transferred a deed of property recorded 13 December 1880 to Sally G Wyatt, containing 422.5 acres land in Sussex County, Virginia, belonging to the estate of Susan H Chappell, deceased, for $1346.27. Although deceased, John W. Chappell and Susan H Chappell were mentioned. It was dated 30 Oct 1873 and recorded on 13 Dec 1880.9 The deed read as follows:
