Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S.

M, #2517
Last Edited1 Aug 2009
Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S. was born. He is the son of (Male) Wakeham. At the time of his sister's wedding in 1900, Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S. was residing in Yonkers, New York, He was a professor at the seminary there.1 William Wakeham, Rev Brother Alfred Wakeham and Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S. also appeared in a news article about their wedding in Washington, DC, at Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, Virginia, on 30 September 1900 with François Louis [2] Pedneau and Catherine Virginia Wakeham.1

Robert Lee Lindamood's news article read as follows:
Lindamood - Pedneau

The Lindamood - Pedneau wedding was solemnized last Thursday, June 30th, at 3 o'clock, Father Wakeham, rector of St. Joseph's Seminary, Yonkers, N.Y., officiating. The contracting parties were Mr. Robert Lindamood, son of Mr. R. E. Lindamood, of Headquarters, Va., and Miss Mary Margaret Pedneau, the accomplished and eldest daughter of Mr. T. L. Pedneau.

The bride wore white silk organdy over white taffeta and a handsome white picture hat, white plume, and carried a goldbound prayer-book. Her traveling suit was a handsome Persian trimmed tailor-made gray cloth, with hat to match.

The maid of honor, Miss Ursula Pedneau, sister of the bride, wore white organdy, trimmed in Valenciennes lace, with satin ribbon.

Miss Stella Lindamood, sister of the groom, second maid of honor, was likewise attired.

The best man and groomsman were Mr Arthur Austin Murray and Mr. Milton Travel. Master William Pedneau, accompanied by his grandfather, the venerable Mr Wakeham, looked like a real little prince as he gracefully carried the wedding ring.

Miss Belew played Mendelssohn's wedding march, while the ceremony was impressively said, which pronounced them man and wife.

The parlor decorations were crimson carnations and white lilies, with simflax and ferns. The large bow window was a bower of beauty, from which suspended the portrait of the bride's sainted mother, to whom she bears a most striking resemblance. The affair was a quiet and informal one, only the relatives and immediate friends being present, and also the Rev. Brother Alfred Wakeham, of Clayton, Delaware, was present. Many useful and handsome presents were in evidence. Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Lindamood took the north bound train for Washington, Deleware, amidst a shower of rice from the throng of friends at the station to see them off

A reception followed and a dance was held at Headquarters, the future home of the bride and groom, on their return Saturday, the second. -- Edinburg Sentinel.
2 Catherine Virginia Wakeham Pedneau, Rev Brother Alfred Wakeham and Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S. also appeared in a news article about about his continued illness and serious condition at Richmond, Virginia, on 15 April 1906.3

William Wakeham's news article read as follows:
Owing to the continued illness and critical condition of Mr. William Wakeham, father of Mrs. F. L. Pedneau, of this place (Jarratt), his brothers, the Rev Father Wakeham, of Yonkers, NY, and Albert Wakeham, of Clayton, Del., have been summoned to his bedside.
3

His brother, William Wakeham, died on 19 April 1906 at Jarratt, Sussex County, Virginia.4

William Wakeham's obituary appeared in the newspaper in Richmond, Virginia, on 25 April 1906. It listed Catherine Virginia Wakeham Pedneau, Rev Brother Alfred Wakeham and Very Rev Richard Wakeham S.S. as surviving him.4

William Wakeham's obituary read:
Mr. William Wakeham

Mr. William Wakeham, formerly of Columbia, Va., died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. L. Pedneau, Jarratt, Va., on April 19th, aged seventy-seven years. He was buried at the family cemetery at Columbia, Va. on Saturday, April 21st. The funeral services were conducted in the Catholic church of that place by the Rev Father Denis, of Richmond, and Father Wakeham, a brother of the deceased.

Mr. Wakeham was a well-known and honored citizen of both Columbia and Jarratt, his great pride being that he was a fearless and staunch Confederate soldier. He is survived by his one daughter, Mrs. F. L. Pedneau, of Jarratt, Va., and two brothers, the Rev. R. K. Wakeham, of Yonkers, NY, and the Rev. Brother Alfred, of Clayton, Del.
